Tangled Inspired hand made from scratch dress/costume.

So I got a request from a woman who wanted a Tangled dress and Tinkerbell costumes for her daughters trick or treating this year.
This is the thing I love to do! I love to make spacial outfits to make little girls' dreams to come true.

I started with internet searches to determine the exact look of the dress. I then made a sketch on this lovely envelope as shown. While I sketched I had to determine how many pieces I was willing to sew, how would they fit together and how simple/comfortable  could I make it for a little girl to wear.

Once that is done I started the pattern making process. Newspaper was used because I do not have pattern paper butt the the shapes can clearly be seen.

These are my chosen materials to start the project. I didn't know what I would use but I just got out everything that could be used.

I started by making a plane white dress that would contain the basics of the dress; the slip, under shirt, top skirt. this is all one piece and has a simple closure on the back of two pieces of hook and loop tape.
for the front I added the contrast fabric by top stitching it onto the bodice and at the skirt it is a box pleat to add dimension.

There is rickrack around neckline and hem of underskirt. I think that using the ratio of 2:1 for the skirt is too full. I wanted their to be enough room for a kid to move in and I definitely got that. Just not sure it works for the Rapunzel costume.

Stick around! Next I will talk about her top piece and how I decided it would look!

Thanks for reading!
