Altering a typical Indian dress. Simple/fast

A woman from the same temple I go to needed one of her dresses from India fixed. For those who dont know when you buy a dress or salwar suit, or even a saree blouse. These things are made at a larger "one size fits all" with a bit of sewing.

The sleeves are always stitched to the inner inseam on the side. The traditional way of tailoring these clothes is to take it in at the sides.

Which as a professional seamstress,  is not the correct way to alter clothes. But for traditions' sake I did do that with this dress.

To attach the sleeves I used my seam ripper to remove them from the side seam first. Then I also seam ripped the side seam at the arm hole (about 2" or so). Opening the arm hole made it much easier to stitch the sleeve in place. Once both sleeves were attached I then made the markings, with my intended measurements, down the sides of the dress.

Then I stitched down the sides where my marks were and used my serger to trim and finish the edges of both side seams.
