To change the hem of shorts you need a reference pair so you don't go too short.
I cut off the excess leaving and extra inch for the hem. Do not cut right where you want the bottom of the hem cut about an inch or so longer than desired length!!!
I have a serger so I serged the edges before I folded and hemmed.
I like to stat and end the hemming stitches on the inner seam, back stitching is not necessary because you just go back around to the beginning. I also do take my time to stitch over the first stitches again because it looks neater and more professional.
And so the finished product above under the pair used for reference. Its also important to not the the waist on the brown pair is higher than the waist on the blue pair. to make up for this difference I measured the inseam not the outer seam.
One more thing, ALWAYS trim your threads, ALWAYS!
